On Deadline
It’s time to get some work done. This time, another job for the New York Times, this one is about the Chevrolet Super Sport models. Today, you can purchase a full line of Chevy SS products, cars and trucks, in short, every offering but Corvettes. Hey, wait, that not so much different than 30 years ago, when the nameplates were Impala and Camaro and not Cobalt and Silverado.
Nothing like a bunch of research to destroy your perceptions. I though I knew a good deal about the SS and what it has stood for in Chevrolet history from 1961 forward. Nope. It was a real eye opener. The Super Sport was a marketing tour-de-force that the bow-tie folks were able to market as different things to different people. Not to add to the piling on, but, Chevy could use some of that right now.
I have read a series of books with Super Sport information, my desk currently looks like a mountain of open books and guides, trying to get to the relevant facts worthwhile enough for a 1000 word story. As usual, I hit the 1000 word mark quite some time ago, the distilling process come next. After that the editing magic in NYC, viola, on your newsstand soon.
Just a few days away from the start of a series of trips via JetBlue to Fort Lauderdale. I like JetBlue and their attitude, no cutesy stuff but no pissed-off employees just forced to take another salary cut. Sad and refreshing, all at the same time.
