Why a Blog?

Why a blog?
Well, the obvious reason is — why not.
My life is not overwhelmingly exciting, but neither is it ever boring. What I do for a living – appraise cars for individuals, corporations, estates, attorneys and insurance companies seems to have some appeal for not only “car guys” but also for the general public. Added to that my second career – writing about cars, seems to be something almost everyone wants to know more about.
I am a Senior auction analyst for Sports Car Market Magazine, a great monthly with a fanatical and fun readership. Work for SCM takes me around the country (in 2005 I covered 19 auctions for SCM) and keeps me in touch with the classic, antique and special interest car market. I have recently started writing a column for Octane, a British based monthly. My work for Octane allows me time to reflect on the American market, occasionally the differences and similarities between what our friends on the other side of the pond collect versus what fills garages Stateside. The New York Times, where I have written a number of pieces for the column Cars On Monday, offers a great opportunity to explore an automotive subject with some detail. There is more that I do, and I’ll be posting additional information about that at a later date.
I invite you to read along while I explain a little more about what I do, where it takes me and what I encounter along the way. One thing you will never find here is names of clients, actual valuations or information presented in a misleading way. I thank you for looking in and wish you a warm welcome!
